Guitar lessons for any age or level that put you in the driver's seat of your musical journey

Hello all! My name is Keegan (they/them). I have been teaching guitar for many years and welcome students of all ages and skill levels for lessons. I am a former music teacher and music therapist, but guitar holds the most special place in my heart. I've spent years playing in bands ranging from funk to progressive rock to jazz to punk. I am a music nerd and delight in sharing the music I love with my students. Whether you have never played the instrument before or have been playing most of your life I hope to have something to offer you. My teaching style is not fixed or based on a method, but draws from understanding your unique connection to the instrument. I am passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent folks. I strive to live and teach according to the idea that all people are capable of playing music and that no person is inherently "more musical" than any other. I look forward to meeting you and will bring my whole self to teaching you however works best for you

My "teaching methodology" is created alongside every individual that I work with. It is just that simple. Whether you dream of shredding or want to learn to play chords to accompany yourself while singing, the methods I employ to helping you reach these goals varies. No two people are the same and no two people learn the same. I believe strongly that a student that feels genuinely passionate about what they are learning will both bring more of their authentic self to lessons and will also lead to greater outcomes in comparison to being dictated to by a teacher. There are a few elements I bring to all students, which is teaching individual creative practice alongside guitar technique. Whether this is learning improvisation (i.e. blues guitar solos, free improvisation, etc) or through composition (i.e. pop songs, rock instrumentals, electronic music accompaniment, etc.) I believe that promoting individual creative expression is the most crucial element of teaching.
