Elijah - Know your tutor
Mathematics is more than numbers; it is a way of thinking, reasoning, and solving problems. As a math educator, I strive to create a classroom environment where students feel confident, supported, and challenged. My goal is to build strong conceptual understanding rather than rote memorization. I emphasize real-world connections, critical thinking, and perseverance. By using clear instruction, guided practice, and meaningful feedback, I help students develop both skills and confidence. I believe every student can succeed in math with the right support, encouragement, and high expectations. I emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving strategies, and real-world connections so students can see the relevance of math beyond the classroom. Through clear instruction, modeling, guided practice, and independent application, I support students at varying levels of ability. Differentiation, collaboration, and ongoing formative assessment allow me to meet students where they are and help them progress confidently. I also prioritize building positive math mindsets. Many students enter the classroom believing they are “not good at math.” I intentionally work to change that narrative by promoting perseverance, celebrating growth, and setting high yet attainable expectations. By fostering curiosity, engagement, and confidence, I aim to help every student recognize their ability to succeed in mathematics and develop skills that will benefit them throughout their academic and professional lives.

Class overview
My teaching methodology is grounded in student-centered learning, intentional planning, and the belief that every learner can succeed with the right support and structure. Effective teaching is not simply delivering content; it is creating meaningful experiences that promote understanding, critical thinking, and long-term retention. My approach integrates clear instruction, active engagement, formative assessment, and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students. First, I begin with purposeful planning aligned to standards and learning objectives. Every lesson is designed with clear goals that identify what students should know and be able to do by the end of instruction. Backward design guides my planning process: I identify desired outcomes, determine acceptable evidence of learning, and then plan instructional activities that lead students toward mastery. This ensures that lessons are focused, coherent, and measurable. Direct instruction plays an important role in my methodology, especially when introducing new concepts. During this phase, I model thinking processes aloud, demonstrate step-by-step procedures, and use multiple representations to clarify understanding. However, instruction is never purely lecture-based. I actively engage students through questioning, discussion, and guided practice. I use strategic questioning techniques that encourage higher-order thinking, prompting students to explain reasoning, analyze patterns, and justify conclusions
