Miaya - Get to know your vocal coach
Having a wealth of experience as not only a singing tracher but a singing student, I understand that singing lessons can be incredibly exposing and vulnerable. I have carefully developed my teaching style to create a supportive and relaxed environment, helping students to celebrate the process, not just the wins. My background is in Musical Theatre; I trained for 4 years and achieved a First Class BA(Hons) in Musical Theatre from Emil Dale Academy (in affiliation with the Univeristy of Bedfordshire), as well as a foundation diploma from ArtsEd. After studying, I completed two contracts on board Viking Cruises as a Lead Vocalist. Through my work I have developed a deep understanding of pop, rock and country singing, amongst other styles. I have singing teaching experience across several schools including Stagecoach, Perform and some regional youth theatre companies. I currently work with around 10 students of different ages. As a vocal coach, I understand that no two students have the same voice, so no two lessons should ever be the same. My approach is tailored towards each individual to get the most out of my students. Whether you’re a child or an adult, a complete beginner or a pro, I have something to offer you through my singing lessons. I look forward to hearing from you!

Singing lessons highlights
My approach to teaching is mainly student led - everybody has a different reason to attend singing lessons, so classes should be tailored to an individual’s personal goals or needs. A person’s whole body is involved when they sing - considering this, my approach often includes SPLAT (abdominal) breathing, tension release, resonance theory (head, chest and mix vocal registers), anchoring, breath control training, facial/upper body stretching. I have strong understanding of stylistic differences in music. I am able to explain these nuances and help students to lean into specific vocal styles. As well as this, I have a wealth of knowledge about repertoire. If requested, I can offer students suggestions about songs and styles to try which I feel would be well suited to their personal goals. Most importantly, I am passionate about creating a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable with trial and error. As someone who has frequently found singing lessons awkward and embarrassing, I strive to bring a sense of fun, humour and lightheartedness to my lessons.
