Justin - Know your guitar teacher
I was the music teacher at East Mountain Road Transition Program in Westfield, Massachusetts. It was a volunteer job teaching music to young adults transitioning from school to adulthood. I taught special needs students how to have fun playing guitar, piano, bass, ukelele, and drums. I taught them about chords, soloing, the scales, all while teaching them how to play popular songs. I started guitar at 9 years old, and have liked it ever since. The first songs I learned to play inclue Free Falin’ by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Wake me up When September Ends by Green Day, Smooth by Carlos Santana, and the like. My favorite genres are Jazz, Rock, Classical, and Pop. I majored in Music Education at Holyoke Community College, and Music Performance at Wesfield State University. I hope you’ll have as much fun as I do learning and playing guitar, at a level and pace that and good for you!

Guitar lessons quick guide
My style of teaching is an inclusive one where I bond with the student. I start them off with beginner books from known brands, like Mel Bay, and start them off with easy songs, like Ode to Joy, or Jingle Bells. I also ask the student what their favorite genres are, and teach them riffs or lines that are doable for them from the genres. I also teach the student basic music theory, like about octaves, fifths, fourths, and about scales. Later on, I also teach them chords. When the student is ready, I move them on to the next book, like level 2 of a Mel Bay book. I make sure the student is having fun, and develops an interest in the music and the instrument. I try to be funny when I talk to students, and I like humor from them too, if they’re into it. When I play, I move around like I’m having fun playing the instrument, and I have ALWAYS loved playing. I hope the students have a great time!
