I have been a gigging musician for 20 years and have been teaching for 11. From my experience at the School of Rock, I have learned 100+ songs ranging from rock to funk to fusion. I have also taught countless lessons and rock band rehearsals as well as prepared students for performances at local venues. I have my bachelors in jazz guitar performance and am well versed in ear training techniques as well as advanced theory concepts applied to improvisation. I can help you with anything from basic chords and scales all the way to modal concepts and soloing over chord changes. I subscribe to the CAGED system, 3 note per string scales, ear adaptability, and understanding of triads and their inversions. First thing I like to do is to get to know you better and figure out what your goals are. What do you like to play? What style of music are you interested in learning? Do you have any favorite artists, bands, musicians, etc.? I mostly will approach our lessons from a song first perspective. If there is a project song we can hone in on that meets your desires as well as skill level, then we will focus on that. Through this we can focus on technique and being able to play the song at the level that is required. If your goal is to play your favorite songs then that is what we can do. However, if you desire more understanding we can get into the deeper meanings behind the techniques and/or how each section operates on a music theory level. From there, we will expand on those concepts and create exercises in order to help those sing concepts turn into tools you may use in other contexts.
