Jocelyne - Your piano teacher
Hi! My name is Jocelyne and I am a music therapy student with hands-on experience using music to foster positive musical experiences. I have been facilitating piano/preschool music lessons for over 2 years in person and have experience teaching all populations from kids to seniors. I am a patient, empathetic and curious human being. I love to learn about the things that uniquely interest you and adapt lessons to fit each student. I'm feedback-driven, organized and empathetic. I come to each lesson prepared with resources that are tailored to the lesson. My students are encouraged to seek their personal musical interests and to develop a practice routine that will enable them to achieve consistent progress. Through my passion for student-centered learning, I aim to foster confidence in students to express themselves authentically on the piano and to connect through a shared appreciation of music.

Piano lessons at a glance
I emphasize active engagement, encouraging students to explore music that inspires them while developing skills that enable them to play with confidence. Lessons begin with discussing the student's background in music. Students will build a strong playing foundation with an introduction to technical elements - scales and dexterity exercises are an essential element to my lessons. A mix of repertoire, theory, sight-reading and ear training are important elements to the lesson. Homework is assigned for each lesson to encourage students to engage with the material taught and to prompt musical exploration. Tools used in lessons include worksheets and flashcards. With my experience in music therapy, lessons can be tailored to include other instruments, including flute/ukulele/guitar, provided that the focus remains on the piano. Other fun ideas include improvising, recording, music production and composition. :)
