Hello! My name is Benjamin Buchanan, you can call me Benny. I started playing piano at 4 and have kept playing all these years. My piano playing led to banjo, then guitar, and so forth. I was a music teacher in broken arrow as well as oklahoma city and midwest city, over the years i left teaching to pursue performing live. I have sense made my way back into instructing, wishing to specialize in guitar as it is what i have played largely throughout my adolescent and adult life. I am a patient and creative teacher that enjoys reaching students in ways that are both refreshing and exciting to both the student and teacher. I have a wide variety of music at my disposal in terms of genre, and am willing to teach at any experience level. There are so many various tiny details that go into playing the guitar that go beyond hand placement and technical training, and through those minute details is where i lead students to find their lifelong love for guitar. I teach with a purpose deeper than helping you learn to sweep pick (though, i can teach it to you) that leaves a lasting impression on students: the love of playing. During a lesson with me you will be listened to and conversated with. We will, naturally, start from where your insecurities lie. Wether that is with basic chords, re-learning the fingerings of said chords, delving into scales or further theory, we will be finding your place of humility and building you a new sense of confidence. I focus on ear training and listening to music (and at times PLAYING music) blindfolded, referencing and philosophizing on how we are to hold the guitar, and how we move with the guitar as we play. I enjoy implementing the Alexander Technique into lessons so that each student can deepen the relationship that their bodies and instruments harbor- our playing is far more affected by our bodies and minds than we think, and subsequently our bodies and minds are vastly more affected by the music we produce. Wether you lack confidence in your scales and sweeps, you want to hone in on your “voice” with new tone and picking knowledge, or you simply wish to learn how to hold your instrument in a more natural way, we cover everything in my lessons.
