Personalized, Confidence-Building French Tutoring | UofT Alum with Psychology Background

Experience delivering one-on-one and small-group instructional support to elementary students (Grades 1–6) in French, English, and mathematics across volunteer and private tutoring settings. Provided weekly tutoring in French vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, speaking, and math, including fractions, decimals, and foundational algebra concepts. Adapted explanations, pacing, and activities to accommodate varying learning styles and skill levels. Designed worksheets, literacy and numeracy tasks, and interactive games to reinforce understanding and sustain student engagement in both virtual and in-person sessions. Fostered confidence and positive learning habits through encouragement and individualized support. Regularly assessed student progress, adjusted instruction accordingly, and communicated updates with parents to support ongoing academic development.

My teaching approach is student-centred, flexible, and informed by my academic background in psychology and my experience supporting mental health. I prioritize creating a calm, supportive learning environment where students feel safe, understood, and comfortable asking questions or making mistakes. Drawing on my understanding of child development, emotional regulation, and attention, I am mindful of cognitive load and ensure that lessons are structured in a way that is manageable and not overwhelming. I carefully adjust pacing, expectations, and instructional strategies to align with each student’s needs, allowing us to move forward at a pace that best supports their confidence and comprehension. I use clear explanations, visual aids, worksheets, literacy and numeracy tasks, and interactive games to reinforce learning and sustain engagement. Positive reinforcement and encouragement are central to my practice, particularly for students who may feel anxious or discouraged. Ongoing assessment and communication with parents guide my instruction and support consistent, meaningful progress over time.
