Daniel - Your piano teacher

Since 2011, I've been teaching students young and old the joys of piano playing. Hi, I'm Daniel Smith, a teacher and composer with an Associate's and Bachelor's degree in Music. I've been an instructor in many styles from beginner theory to performance to improvisational jazz, and every time I learn something new. I take a student based approach, letting those I'm teaching pick and choose the pieces they want to play and tailoring those works to their skill level. Additionally, I allow my younger students feedback on their favorite games and activities, so as to make lesson time fun using their interests! For younger students, I will inform parents and/or guardians to the necessity of some textbooks, especially very young students. These will give students who are unfamiliar to the building blocks of music the confidence in the future to create and perform with ease. However, if something's working for a student, why change it? If a student learns through improvising and creative exercises, I want to encourage them to make their own pieces and perform with confidence. I also want to make sure every student of mine is more comfortable and satisfied with their skills when they leave my instruction than when we started the lesson. I want to thank you for considering me, and can't wait to see you in lessons!

Piano lessons at a glance

When teaching students, I want to bring a combination of theory, technique, empathetic and emotinal understanding, and games for younger students. Each aspect allows me to tailor lessons for every age. Whether you operate on a grand piano or upright piano or synthesizer, or learn classical or jazz or standards, my goal is to allow you, the student, to express your musicality best. My ultimate goal is for each of my students for gain a deeper appreciation for the music they enjoy and to learn new forms of music from what I can provide, given my experience. I have always said the best musicians keep an open mind for listening, and expanding your palette of enjoyment is the #1 I could think of doing that. Aided by video lessons and interactive musical software, I look to unlock the latent potential of every student, while making learning both enjoyable and effective.
