Kalyane - Get to know your vocal coach
Born in Cambodia, adopted by multicultural parents, raised in England, with a Bachelors in Musical Theatre. Recently, I’ve been travelling the world as lead singer on cruise ships. My interest in music was nurtured through piano and violin lessons, and my passion for musical theatre at Guildford School of Acting (GSA) Saturday school. My graduation and work prospects were severely affected by COVID lockdowns in Australia, and the folding of the global theatre industry. Despite this, I started working with The Mascoteers, an agency specialising in children’s parties and events, playing popular Disney characters. I decided to return to the UK as opportunities to audition began to present themselves more quickly. I was offered work on two international cruise ships and initially accepted the role of Lead Vocalist on the Marella Explorer cruising around the Mediterranean where I sang and danced on 11 rolling shows (two shows a night, six days a week.) Princess Cruises then offered me a replacement contract playing “Lan” in ‘The Secret Silk.’ This necessitated me learning the show in less than a week and puppetry. Subsequently, Princess offered me a triple contract which I completed at the end of April 2025. This 18-month contract saw me performing in seven rolling shows aboard three ships. In the production show ‘Magic To Do ’, a show curated by Steven Schwartz. I played the lead of “Kat.” The role involved singing, acting, movement and magic tricks.
