Ian - Get to know your vocal coach
Hello! My name is Ian Banno, a Berklee College of Music alum with 10 years professional experience performing music, the last five of which have come performing internationally at venues like the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada; the Siauliai Jazz Festival in Lithuania; and at the Guadeloupe Jazz Festival in the French Caribbean. As a trained classical vocalist, my primary goals are to establish a strong foundation with each student in regards to diction; pitch accuracy; sight singing; and crucially, developing a mastery of ear training. I have experience performing and teaching a broad range of styles, from indigenous Afro Caribbean and West African folkloric music to modern American pop standards and beyond. My favorite part about teaching music is delving into the extensive history and oral traditions that allow for us to understand art from various different cultures globally. I'm super excited to get to work with you!

Singing lessons highlights
In my personalized teaching approach, I specialize in classical singing lessons, focusing on pitch accuracy, tone production, diction, rhythmic accuracy, and crucially - ear training. My main goal is that by the time we are finished with our sessions, each and every student will have ears skilled well beyond their wildest dreams. I choose to do this by creating an environment of patience while always challenging my students to get to the next step in the process of learning and loving music. I specifically choose to follow a set curriculum taught to me at the Berklee College of Music for all beginner to intermediate level singers which will drastically improve rhythmic and tonal accuracy. My methodology strengths lie in creating a supportive environment in order to nurture musical growth to its highest potential, while simultaneously pushing all students to strive toward constant improvement.
