I am Mr. Rogge, a teacher/tutor focused in Intermediate/Senior level Mathematics, Science, and Physics (grades 7-12). I have over 4 years of tutoring experience working with both my specialized group as well as outside this such as younger demographics as well as university level students. With a Bachelors of Science in Physics, I have a strong focus and understanding of critical thinking and problem solving skills that I will be granting to my students. I have also taught in public and private schools following the Canada, Ontario curriculum, the same courses/content that will be tutored here. My hobbies include video games like Outer Wilds, board games like Betrayal at the House on the Hill, and card games like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic the Gathering , and Pokemon. I also enjoy watching horror movies and anime with my favourite horror movie being Midsommar.

Class overview
The main philosophy I stand behind comes from a quote by famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor Walter Lewin in saying that “teacher[s] who make Physics boring are criminals” (Lewin). This drives my philosophy to educate my students beyond what Physics is but why it is important and interesting. I aim to generate lessons that are engaging to my students. Some of this will be influenced by my own bias of why I find Physics interesting so I will need to look elsewhere to find new angles of interest for Physics. I can look to use many forms of Assessment as Learning since this will allow for the most interactivity in a classroom while also ensuring that my students are still able to learn and report their learning. Another aim I have is to apply a normalized Zone of Proximal Development (normalized in the sense that ZPD will be applied to every student at least once during class time such that every student will at a point feel the course challenging them to grow) to my classroom as I believe this is an effective method to include in lessons focused on student engagement. The response to overcome and grow given from a challenge that seems beatable is a wealthy resource to use. My last main inclusion of teachings comes from the modern tool of Gamification. With the recent few years, gaming has surged in popularity and I have been following it during my time as a Teacher Candidate to figure out ways it could influence my classroom. I believe it to be a great method to create a fun sense of community within the classroom while still teaching. Having a fun and positive community for my classroom can help with keeping students engaged. A student is more willing and ready to learn from someone they enjoy interacting with.
