Ca Shunn - Know your tutor

I’m Ca Shunn Harris — a math tutor with a bachelor’s degree, 7+ years of experience, and way too much passion for helping people finally say, “Ohhh, that makes sense now.” I got my start tutoring kids in my community, and after earning my mathematics degree, I decided to take this whole education thing full-time. These days, I help students of all levels with personalized learning plans, math tips and tricks, practice drills, homework help, and test prep. Algebra, calculus, trigonometry; you name it, I've conquered them all. So whatever you need, I’ve got your back. Outside of tutoring, I’m usually playing soccer, gaming on Xbox or PlayStation, or grinding through Call of Duty Zombies like it's a part-time job. I’m a Manchester City fan, and yes — Alexander Isak is that guy for me. Everyone can learn. Seriously. So let’s get started with you.

Class overview

My tutoring approach is all about making learning click through interactive and visual explanations that build real confidence and help students understand the ideas behind the problems. I focus on strengthening core concepts and adapting to each students learning style so the material actually makes sense rather than feeling like a bunch of random steps to memorize. I specialize in Math, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and several other subjects at the high school level, giving students a strong foundation for both classwork and future courses. I use a variety of tech tools, such as an iPad and a stylus, to create lessons that are clear, visual, and sometimes entertaining enough to keep even the most overwhelmed student engaged. I follow a structured curriculum that stays aligned with school standards while also giving students a clearer path to understanding each topic. With over 50 students taught, I have worked with a wide range of academic needs and personalities, and I take pride in creating a supportive learning environment that helps every student grow. My goal is always to make learning feel achievable and to guide students with a personalized approach that truly works for them.

Mathematics concepts taught by Ca Shunn

Student learned about 22 hours ago

The tutor and student reviewed the domain of square root functions, function composition, graphing parabolas using the vertex formula, and restrictions on variables in denominators. They practiced solving problems for each concept, with the student working through examples with guidance.

The Tutor and Student worked through problems related to finding the roots of polynomial equations, factoring quadratic expressions, and evaluating functions. They practiced applying the Zero Product Property and the rules for factoring, as well as understanding how to substitute values into functions and interpret results, particularly with absolute values and square roots.

The student and tutor reviewed function composition and polynomial simplification using GCF factoring. They practiced solving quadratic equations by factoring and concluded by discussing how to find the Least Common Denominator for rational expressions, with plans for future practice sessions.

The Tutor and Student reviewed Least Common Multiple (LCM) for numerical and algebraic expressions, and then extensively practiced graphing quadratic functions, focusing on identifying vertices, understanding shifts (vertical and horizontal), and plotting points. They also covered the standard form of a circle's equation and how to determine its center and radius from the equation, including plotting the circle on a graph.

The student and tutor reviewed factoring monomials and handling exponents. They clarified a specific point of confusion regarding the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) when a variable term is not present in all parts of the polynomial. The tutor also introduced the concept of the Least Common Multiple (LCM) for monomials, contrasting it with factoring.

The session covered the distance formula between two points, the concept of exact answers in mathematics, and the algebraic technique of completing the square. The student also practiced writing linear equations in slope-intercept form and factoring out monomials, with plans to schedule a follow-up session on Saturday.
