James - Get to know your vocal coach
Hello! My name is James Probert aka your new singing tutor! I started singing in choir and performing in musicals when I was eight years old and haven't looked back since. I attended the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama where I received my Bachelor's degree in Musical Theatre with first class honours. There I fell in love with the Estill Vocal Model. My singing lessons changed my voice and my life. Now I want to bring my training and my experience to you! I am a warm and supportive teacher for those of all ages and experience levels. Whether you're a pro looking for a second opinion or a complete amateur taking the first step toward vocal mastery, I would love to be your guide! I am a highly motivated teacher who knows exactly what it takes to get into West End audition rooms because I'm doing just that! I am caring but firm and ready to push you towards progress at your preferred pace. I want to understand your goals and create a path tailor-made for you! What do you say? Are you ready to get singing?

Singing lessons highlights
I believe that you have a beautiful voice. It is my job as a singing tutor, to: 1) make your voice more efficient 2) expand your range 3) give you the confidence to feel you can sing day in day out, every day 4) give you confidence 5) allow you to feel the joy of singing! I have a strong teaching philosophy when it comes to singing. I believe that technical mastery is the goal of our sessions together. Technical mastery serves the artistry of acting through song. I want to work with you at your pace to build you into a singer that has a healthy relationship with your voice. Building a fundamental technique allows you to spend less time 'arguing' with your voice and wishing that your voice doesn't have the constraints it does, and more time working on the exercises and muscular patterns to achieve the specific goal that you are trying to work on. Specificity, specificity, specificity. We will work on establishing 'breath + tone' primarily to create an efficient, healthy, and resonant sound. Then we will explore 'pitch + range' from three angles and look at applying it to specific passages of specific songs that you are interested in improving. I can tailor our lessons the level of technicality you require. Whether you are a self-identified nerd like me, or more interested in not having to think about your voice when you sing - I am interested in whatever you feel will serve you best. I am happy to create practice logs for your particular singing journey and ensure that you are making progress under my tutorship. I work via keyboard and guitar, but will also use backing tracks, audio workstations, and sheet music when necessary. You do not have to read music, but I can help you read music if that is a goal of yours.
