With over 10 years of professional singing experience, earning my Master's Degree in Vocal Performance at North Park University, Jonathon Joseph Larson is an excellent vocal coach and teacher. From Pop to Classical to Rock, all musical interests are welcome in the vocal studio. In my personalized lessons, we focus on the Bel Canto Technique. Bel Canto (or Beautiful Singing) is the basis for most western singing, whether that be Pop or Opera. All students, from beginner to advanced learners, will focus on the structural basis of Bel Canto, focusing our breath and using this to produce a sound unique to you. Singing is very personal and no two journeys are a like, so the studio is a safe space for expression and experimentation. Lessons will also work to improve your rhythm, sight singing, performance techniques, and confidence. Book your lesson today, and start to explore your voice!

They practiced exercises to enhance breath support and discussed maintaining pitch stability and emotional connection in vocal delivery. The Student was assigned a new vocal exercise for open vowel practice and tasked with providing the sheet music for the song for the next session.

Student and Tutor worked on vocal technique, focusing on proper posture, diaphragmatic breathing, and sustained breath control through various exercises. They practiced maintaining an open throat and avoiding neck tension during 'A' vowel exercises and scales across the Student's vocal range. The session concluded with applying these techniques to a song, with homework assigned to practice the song using tall vowels and clear consonant articulation.

The Mental Game of Singing
Refining Articulation: Consonants and Vowels

Releasing Unnecessary Vocal Tension
The Student and Tutor worked extensively on fundamental singing techniques, starting with breathing exercises to improve breath support, posture, and body awareness. They practiced vocalizing scales to enhance pitch accuracy and develop vibrato control, specifically focusing on maintaining an open vocal tract. These techniques were then applied to the first line of the song "Caro Mio Ben," with an emphasis on expressive dynamics and the correct approach to higher notes. The Tutor recommended practicing the melody line with a piano for self-correction.
