Monica Your chemistry tutor
I am Monica Rahman, Ph.D., a chemistry tutor and educator with over eight years of teaching experience, including roles as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Miami University and as a Senior Lecturer at BRAC University. I have taught General Chemistry, Chemistry in Modern Society, Organic Chemistry Laboratory, and Medicinal Chemistry, and I have coordinated large lab courses where I trained and mentored 15 teaching assistants across three semesters. I enjoy helping students see that chemistry is not intimidating, it is part of everything around us. My goal is to make chemistry meaningful, relatable, and enjoyable for learners at all levels. My tutoring style is engaging, supportive, and fully personalized. I use real-world examples, guided questions, and visual aids to simplify complex topics. Whether we are covering states of matter, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, enzyme kinetics, or biochemistry, I focus on helping students build strong conceptual understanding instead of relying on memorization. I foster a positive, inclusive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, thinking aloud, and making connections to everyday life. My sessions often include quick check-ins, active problem-solving, and real-life applications to reinforce understanding and confidence. Having taught both majors and non-majors in lecture to laboratory settings, I easily adapt to different learning needs. I tailor every session to the student’s pace and goals to ensure each learner feels supported. Ultimately, my aim is to help students build confidence, develop strong problem-solving skills, and truly enjoy learning chemistry.

Chemistry class overview
To me, one of the important parts of tutoring is making the session interactive, hands-on, and engaging. I don’t believe teaching should come from the tutor just talking the whole time; students learn much better when they participate, ask questions, and practice what they are learning. To help students understand topics like Chemical Bonding, Biochemistry, Acids, Bases & pH, and more, I use tools such as interactive simulations, online quizzes, and video clips. I also break down concepts into small, simple steps so things feel manageable instead of overwhelming. Throughout the session, I ask guided questions to help students check their understanding and stay on track. I also follow a clear structure during each session. I usually start by asking what the student already knows, and then build new concepts on top of that. I believe the environment matters a lot, so I try to create a positive, friendly, and fun atmosphere where students feel comfortable and motivated to learn. And because every student learns differently, I always adjust my teaching style to support their individual needs.
