My name is Jonathan and I'm an ESL teacher and IELTS Speaking coach with over 10 years of classroom and tutoring experience. I specialize in teaching student-centred conversation classes and creating materials for professionals in specific industries, such as nursing, medicine, HR, and the petrochemical industry. For beginners or low-intermediate level English speakers, I teach classes to help build vocabulary and increase accuracy with grammar and self-expression. I listen and give my students lots of time to think and speak and express themselves to the best of their ability. I give feedback at the end of a task or lesson to help you improve and give you something to work on outside of our class time. I am patient, supportive, and encouraging. I guide students and encourage them to explore as much input as possible: news articles, books, YouTube videos, TV series, whatever excites your interests and motivates you to learn. I supplement these materials with focused lessons, quizzes, and guided discussion topics that will help you to notice more, understand nuances of meaning you may have missed on first viewing, and to build your own confidence and independence with encountering texts, media, and real-life situations on your own. I try to maximize comprehensibility and spaced repetition so that the things you learn stick in your memory. I also encourage productive tasks, such as writing, mock presentations, and situational role-play exercises where you, the student, are the leader of the class. Following these methods, within a few weeks I guarantee you will begin to see a big improvement in yourself.
