Evan - Your piano teacher
Why make music hard when you can make music fun! I believe that music is truly for everybody, and I strive to help others learn to express themselves through it. Understanding fundamentals, theory, and technique are all very important foundations, but the ultimate goal of playing music is creative and emotional fulfillment. While my attitude towards the art form may be liberal, I can assure you that I have a deep academic understanding of what makes music so satisfying to listen to and perform. Along with 15+ years of performance experience across multiple instruments, I have both a BA and MFA in music theory and composition. I love any and all questions regarding the medium and highly encourage inquisitiveness in my students. So whether you want to delve into the scientific and philosophical nature of music or just want to know how to play your favorite Beatles song, my classroom is open to any and all who are hungry to learn!

My teaching style is highly determined by the experience and personality of my student: As someone who struggled with ADHD as a child, I remember what it was like to have my mind constantly wandering during piano lessons. Now, I have developed several techniques to help with this based on my elementary experience. As a collegiate level performer, I have witnessed the militaristic "drill-instructor" method that so many universities utilize and I understand the drastic toll it takes on some as well as the immense drive it sparks in others. The truth is that everyone learns differently, so there is no "one-teaching-style-fits-all". It takes time to learn a person before truly knowing how to teach them. Understanding this philosophy is critical to the way I go about understanding my students, their needs, and their path forward.
