I'm Christen Frei, a Chemistry and Biology tutor with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a Master's Degree in Chemistry. I worked as a research scientist for 5 years, studying genetic neurological conditions and viral infections. I loved being on the cutting edge of research, but my main passion was teaching and helping others love science (or at least not be afraid of it). I have worked with middle school and high school students at an International Baccalaureate school here in Oregon. Many of my students had learning difficulties such as dyslexia, ADHD, or autism. I find that most of us need to see a concept in a new way in order to learn it, but we are all capable of learning anything. I like to use visual learning methods, experiments, and real-life examples to make concepts memorable and approachable. I can help you with an entire course, test review, or homework. I am here to help you overcome the fear and frustration surrounding science.

Depending on your needs, my tutoring style involves presentations and explanations of concepts to put them into context, as well as working together on problem sets and assignments. By determining your interests and learning style, I will create a personalized experience to build your confidence in learning. Over Zoom, we will use Google Docs, classroom notebooks, and interactive whiteboards to dive into whichever curriculum you need. My favorite subjects are General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, General Biology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, and Genetics. I cater to college, high school, and middle school students, ensuring each student receives tailored support. Science is often more intimidating than it needs to be. I like to teach students how to think like scientists so that these topics can enrich their lives and the way they see the world.
