Erica Your chemistry tutor

Hello! My name is Erica and I am a 2nd year PhD student in Chemistry. I am an experienced tutor in my field of expertise and beyond! Over my 7+ years of tutoring, I've helped students reach their goals in math, sciences and language arts. My teaching style is rooted in patience and enthusiasm, with a personalized approach catering to each student's individual needs & learning style. I work with students from elementary school to university, offering support in conceptual understanding, step-by-step problem solving, experimental applications, homework and exam prep. Chemistry is my main area of expertise, however I am also experienced in teaching physics, biology, pre-calculus, English, and French up to the university level. Whichever subject it may be, I aim to make the learning process both effective and enjoyable for students. Let's reach your learning goals together!

Chemistry class overview

My teaching style is interactive and engaging, ensuring students are participating in active learning, rather than passive learning. I incorporate the Socratic method into my discussions with students, gently guiding them towards the answer whilst allowing them to think the solution through themselves. Beyond dialogue, I utilize real-time digital note-taking so that students can follow along every step of the way. I also incorporate supplemental materials, whether it be diagrams, images etc. as needed to enhance understanding. To create a comfortable and supportive learning environment, I aim to get to know my students and build a personal student/mentor relationship. I believe my job as a tutor is not only to help each student reach their learning goals, but also to foster a love of learning, help students build confidence, and see their own potential!
