Ian - Violin teacher
I’m Ian Hipps, and for over seven years, I’ve enjoyed working with young violinists of all ages and backgrounds. My passion for music has led me to perform all across the United States and Europe, including chamber ensembles with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony, as well as professional symphonies. I currently perform in the Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania region with local symphonies and ensembles. My students have gone on to rewarding paths as public school music teachers, ABRSM and Royal School of Music certified instructors, Suzuki teachers, and performers. Many younger students have shined in PMEA and NYSSMA ensembles. I believe in helping each person grow in skill and confidence, creating a friendly environment where everyone can thrive and truly enjoy making music. Whether you dream of the stage or simply want to learn at your own pace, I’m excited to help you reach your musical goals.

Violin lessons overview
My teaching approach draws from the Suzuki method’s emphasis on listening, repetition, and a nurturing environment, combined with extensive experience guiding students through Royal School of Music, ABRSM, and other formal exam systems. I focus first on developing a strong, healthy tone and a solid technical foundation, essential for long-term musical growth. I strive to foster independent thinking by encouraging students to critically listen to their playing and identify areas for improvement. Lessons are carefully structured yet flexible, blending technical exercises with musical creativity to keep learning engaging. Every student is unique, so I tailor my teaching to fit their individual goals, pace, and learning style, whether they are beginners or advanced performers. My ultimate goal is to help students become confident, expressive musicians who enjoy playing and can solve musical challenges on their own.
