L. Your chemistry tutor
Hi! I'm L. Horner, BASc. I work at a local community college teaching chemistry lecture and labs. I also tutor for the college in both environmental science and chemistry, both in-person and online. I've done this for 15 years. I specialize in teaching students inorganic chemistry, from the fundamentals taught in high school to college level general chemistry. I teach Principles of Chemistry, Chemistry for Biological Sciences, Basic Chemistry, Inorganic & Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry 1 and 2. I've taught in many settings: big and small classrooms, a busy tutoring center, in my living room, group and one-to-one online. I've also used many different styles of teaching: lecturing, open discussions, questions and answers, examples of practice problems, and real world problem solving. My goal is to teach students how to think like a scientist. I also specialize in running a chemistry laboratory where I work with students running experiments, help them apply the concepts learned in lectures, and we work through real world examples of how chemistry is used today. I understand students have diverse needs so I often use visual aids and real world examples. I help students succeed with review sessions and test prep strategies and I'm comfortable with special need students. I hope to help you achieve your goals.

Chemistry class overview
My tutoring style is dynamic and engaging, focusing on interactive and visual learning experiences. I specialize in visual learners and kinesthetic learners. I use information presented graphically, such as charts, diagrams, maps and hands-on activities that use physical movement, and experiential learning. However, I can also offer help to those that are auditory learners by giving lectures and having discussions or those who are reading/writing learners by writing the information and completing practice problems for them. To enhance learning, I use a variety of tools like interactive whiteboard, online simulations, video animations, PowerPoint, Excel and other educational apps. I follow a structured curriculum that aligns with the course to ensure comprehensive understanding. My personalized tutoring approach offers hands-on learning and in-depth explanations to help them excel in their chemistry studies. I always prompt questions and have the student help work through problems so we can fix mistakes. I have been a teacher for over 15 years and been part of thousands of students learning path. I hope to part of yours too!
