Chemistry class overview
🧪 Teaching Chemistry – My Way Today, I am teaching my students Acids, Bases, and Salts. Instead of just giving definitions, I start by asking them to look around in daily life. I say: “When you eat a lemon, why does it taste sour? Why does soap feel slippery on your hands? And how does common salt form when an acid and base react?” This immediately sparks curiosity. Then I explain: • Acids taste sour (like lemon, vinegar) because they release H⁺ ions in water. • Bases feel soapy (like soap, baking soda solution) because they release OH⁻ ions. • When an acid reacts with a base, they form a salt and water — this is called a neutralization reaction. To make it more understandable, I do a simple experiment in class: • I take litmus paper and dip it into lemon juice — it turns red (showing acidity). • Then I dip another strip into soap solution — it turns blue (showing it’s a base). • Finally, I mix the two solutions, and we see the litmus becomes neutral. 💡 Why My Students Understand Easily Because I connect chemistry with things they see every day, they no longer feel it is just theory. The experiment gives them a visual proof of what’s happening. 📘 The Result By the end, my students don’t just memorize the reaction; they truly understand acids, bases, and salts as part of real life.
