Christa - Get to know your vocal coach
Hi! I have fifteen years of teaching experience on a variety of instruments (Piano, Guitar, Voice, Percussion, Sax, Clarinet, Violin), and I teach many different genres and styles. I am interested in instruments, in the various Musics and instruments of the world, and in the intersection between Wellness and Music. Going into school, Saxophone was my primary instrument, but while in school I took up Djembe (both private lessons and playing the West African Drum Ensemble for 3 years), and I was a Composition major. I am currently in the process of making Violin my primary instrument, as well as preparing for further academic study in Music and Health, as well as Violin Performance. I have studied Voice privately (Classical), and have sung in quartets (seasonal) for almost a decade, and I sing and teach using both Contemporary and Classical techniques. Contemporary is where I have the most teaching experience, but I also teach Classical, and include relevant techniques and exercises in all lessons. My lessons are always student-led, in that I give my students agency over their lesson and include them in decisions and direction, and ultimately, the focus of the lesson is giving students the tools to sculpt and reveal their most authentic "Voice."

Singing lessons highlights
I have found experience to be the best teacher, so my lessons are very interactive and immersive - I encourage students to experience and to consider things for themselves rather than just taking it from me. For example, every new lesson starts with the same question: What do you consider to be the difference between speaking and singing? Rather than telling students what to think, I encourage them to first consider things for themselves. Once they have considered and come to their own conclusions, I will reveal concepts and techniques. This way, understanding is thorough and lasting, and knowledge has been gathered and considered by the student - not just fed to them from the outside. Also, demonstrations are obviously beneficial, and sometimes required for proper understanding, and so the lessons are very interactive as far as student-teacher exchange.
