Guitar lessons quick guide
My teaching approach is centered on making music enjoyable and approachable for every student. I teach acoustic, electric, and bass, and I carefully adapt each lesson to the student’s age, personality, and skill level. I use clear explanations and supportive visuals so students can easily understand and stay engaged. Outside of lessons, I provide practice videos, easy-to-read chord diagrams/tabs, and tailored, original, backing tracks so they can build confidence at home in a structured way. I believe that learning music is not just about mastering techniques, but also about developing creativity, patience, and self-expression. My goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and celebrating their progress. With a balance of fun activities and steady skill-building, I help students grow as musicians while fostering a lifelong love of music.

The session covered seventh chord theory, including dominant, major, and minor seventh chords, and their application across the fretboard. The Student practiced identifying seventh chord shapes in various CAGED positions and explored shell chords. Homework involves practicing the discussed seventh chord shapes and applying them to create progressions.

The session covered fretboard visualization, the one-five chord relationship, and the application of the Mixolydian scale for improvisation. The Student practiced finding licks in different keys and chord shapes across the fretboard. The tutor assigned practicing the concepts learned and exploring songs to identify chord progressions and Mixolydian scales.

The Student and Tutor connected scales, chords, and fretboard knowledge for improvisation in G major. They explored triad-based improvisational techniques, CAGED system connections, and the incorporation of blues notes. The student was encouraged to practice improvising using the new techniques and explore E minor backing tracks.

During a recent lesson, the instructor and a learner from Boulevard Manor delved into the circle of fifths, major and minor scales, and various musical modes. The discussion emphasized their practical application to chord progressions. For homework, the learner was tasked with converting "No Woman, No Cry" from C major to C minor, an exercise the instructor plans to review next week.

Diego assisted Paul with learning "Blackbird" on guitar, focusing on rhythm, chord transitions, and fretboard patterns. Paul practiced the intro and chorus, and Diego explained chromaticism and melodic structure. Diego will send Paul a video tutorial and metronome settings for practice, and they will continue working on the song next week.
