Guitar lessons quick guide
My teaching approach is centered on making music enjoyable and approachable for every student. I teach acoustic, electric, and bass, and I carefully adapt each lesson to the student’s age, personality, and skill level. I use clear explanations and supportive visuals so students can easily understand and stay engaged. Outside of lessons, I provide practice videos, easy-to-read chord diagrams/tabs, and tailored, original, backing tracks so they can build confidence at home in a structured way. I believe that learning music is not just about mastering techniques, but also about developing creativity, patience, and self-expression. My goal is to create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and celebrating their progress. With a balance of fun activities and steady skill-building, I help students grow as musicians while fostering a lifelong love of music.

Guitar concept taught by Diego
During a recent lesson, the instructor and a learner from Boulevard Manor delved into the circle of fifths, major and minor scales, and various musical modes. The discussion emphasized their practical application to chord progressions. For homework, the learner was tasked with converting "No Woman, No Cry" from C major to C minor, an exercise the instructor plans to review next week.

Diego assisted Paul with learning "Blackbird" on guitar, focusing on rhythm, chord transitions, and fretboard patterns. Paul practiced the intro and chorus, and Diego explained chromaticism and melodic structure. Diego will send Paul a video tutorial and metronome settings for practice, and they will continue working on the song next week.

Role of Bass Notes
A guitar lesson focused on applying the CAGED system and analyzing Chopin's Waltz in A Minor to simplify its arrangement. One individual, a student at Florida State University in Tallahassee, played excerpts from the waltz, receiving guidance on finger placement and chord transitions. For homework, they will analyze the harmony of the A and B parts of the waltz, identifying the underlying chord progressions.

CAGED System
During a recent guitar lesson, a student from Lone Star College - Montgomery reviewed guitar triads. The focus was on identifying major and minor triads within CAGED chord shapes. The learner practiced recognizing these shapes across the fretboard and explored their application in improvisation. They also discussed how understanding triads can aid in songwriting and chord voicings, and practice with chord progressions was assigned.

During a guitar lesson, Diego introduced Raphael to the CAGED system, demonstrating how to play major scales and chords across various fretboard positions. Raphael actively practiced transitioning between the C, A, G, E, and D shapes, also exploring how to integrate scales for improvisation. Diego provided practice exercises to help Raphael internalize these shapes and scales, and committed to sending additional resources, including scale diagrams, later in the week.
