Katelyn - Violin teacher
Hello! I'm Katelyn (Katie), I'm 21 years old, and I've been playing the violin for 12 years and teaching for 6. I'm in college for music composition, but I've taken a gap year due to an injury in my left hand, but that hasn't stopped me from teaching and still playing and honing my skills. I have music theory knowledge and compose music frequently, mostly classical in nature. I primarily have studied classical, but I also teach contemporary, and I have a knowledge of most string instruments, as well as piano. I am open to teaching to all ages and skill levels, where your beginner, intermediate, or advanced. I primarily focus on the foundation, so if you aren't a fan of scales and arpeggios, I'm not sure I'm right for you. I want student who are dedicated to improving their sound. Please reach out, I'm eager to get started! And of course, please always be transparent with me and ask all the questions you want. Teaching is what I'm here for!

Violin lessons overview
My teaching approach starts with creating a strong foundation, both musically (music theory, reading music, sight reading while playing, ect.) and technically (bow holds, finger techniques, ect.). I tailor my curriculums to each person. Everyone learns differently, and that is completely fine. Just be honest and upfront and you'll go far. I also provide books to get started with, and I also custom make my own exercises and can send them in PDF form. I also can recommend several apps and websites that will help develop your ear and your knowledge of music theory. These websites include quizzes and exercises that can be done outside of lessons. And that is also important. I expect my student to practice and to take my advice. Practice doesn't make perfect, it's makes us better. And being better is probably the reason you're looking for tutoring.
