Si puedes! Yes you can learn Spanish with a cool Latina raised in the US, I have the school preparation for it and the cool attitude for results.

During pandemic, I taught 10 students, grade 7, in Reno, Nevada, online. I have also taught on Whatsapp, mostly conversational Spanish. I really enjoy vocabulary, finding connections with other languages, you can learn about history too with languages in this way. Where do these words come from? Sometimes these little stories, like from Latin to Spanish and English, can make the students remember better. When I teach I like to also explain popular sayings, it is so much fun because we delve into cultural differences and what is appropriate or not. Music helps enormously, when people sing and follow the lyrics, and at least attempt for their tongues to follow, brain power opens to the possibility of communicating in another language. I enjoy asking the students in the beginning why they want to learn Spanish, what is their goal, their environment, what motivates them, or what is their background in travel or family with Spanish.

My English speaking level is native. I have learned English since I was 4, at the same rate as Spanish. Therefore, it is easy for me to understand what you need, but not only for that reason, along with my family, who speaks Punjabi too, and having lived in the US for 27 years, I have learned to communicate culturally with other people from around the world. That connection builds trust and students feel comfortable around me, especiallly if they have strong accents. I start with some vocabulary and short sentences, but for beginners it is very important to start with the abc's and pronunciation. I also enhance listening comprehension by focusing on speaking practice and by encouraging students to listen to music while following the lyrics and interacting with online apps such as Duolingo. I tailor to different levels and ages also, having experience with kids ages 6 on.
