Brian - Know your guitar teacher
Hi, I'm Brian and have been teaching guitar and music for over 20 years. I teach all ages and ability levels. I balance my lessons between teaching the student what they are interested in (e.g. various songs...) and giving them the technique, tools, and theory to accomplish their musical goals. I love teaching and seeing students develop into their musical personalities. I am open to all styles and find value in everything. I have a masters from York University in Music Composition and an undergrad degree from Berklee College of Music. I have played, composed for and toured with numerous muscial projects in a multitude of styles. I grew up loving punk rock and then got into funk and experimental rock. Later I discovered avat-garde jazz, contemporary classical music, and microtonal music, all musical areas that have kept me excited and interested for my entire life.

Guitar lessons quick guide
I first assess what level the student is at on their instrument and also what their musical interests are, for instance: do they wasn't to learn how to play blues? Do they want to be able to play and sing pop and classic rock songs? Are they interested in starting a metal band? I balance the lessons between teaching the student what they want to learn and what will keep them motivated while giving them all the technical tools and know-how they will need to succeed. While having tons of musical, theory, performance, and other education techniques, I feel the most important thing is to react to what is happening in the moment - to respond to the moment of the student's needs with empathy and enthusiasm. It rarely helps people to simply impose theoretical methods without reflection. I enjoy connecting with students and helping them along on their musical journey.
