Ahlyssa - Get to know your vocal coach
Hello! My name is Ahlyssa and I am a classically trained opera singer with professional experience in Operas and Musicals! When I'm not performing in a show, I love to teach music! I have been teaching 1 to 1 and group lessons in person and online for about 8 years! My goal in lessons is to foster your love of music and improve your technique, explore musicality, and grow your confidence in singing to perform and share your love of music too! Music is a language that anyone can understand and the ability to share it is very special. In lessons, we aim to improve our abilities, but also to have fun doing it! I am very energized and enthuiastic when it comes to singing, or music in general! With my background in classical singing, and my performing experience in multiple genres, I am able to teach a vast range of repertoire. As a working performer, I am constantly learning new songs and techinques in my own practice. I look forward to meeting you and sharing a love of singing together!

Singing lessons highlights
My goal in lessons is to foster your love of music. Through learning techinques, new songs, and educational games (for children of course), my intention in lessons is to help you make progress and grow your love of music. Whether you're a hobbyist or professional, I can give you the guidance and teaching required to help you reach your goal. You can expect to work on vocal warm ups, musical technical exercises and selected repertoire (whether by you or suggested by me) in your lesson. I always do my best to share sheet music, lyric sheets, or backingtracks during lessons so that we are both prepared to work our hardest. I hope my skills honed in practical studies like my bachelors and masters degree, but also my professional experience performing in staged shows and concents will allow me to help you hone your own skills and achieve your musical goals!

Singing concept taught by Ahlyssa
During a recent vocal lesson, Ahlyssa introduced Soph to music theory, specifically the treble clef and note identification. They then moved on to vocal exercises and practiced two songs. Soph dedicated her efforts to improving breath control, vocal dynamics, and emotional expression in her singing, with Ahlyssa offering targeted feedback on specific phrases and techniques to refine her performance.

Ahlyssa and Soph began their vocal lesson with exercises focused on voiced and voiceless consonants and scales. Soph then moved on to practicing the songs "Tangled" and "Freya," concentrating on achieving smooth legato phrasing, expressive delivery, and clear pronunciation. They intend to continue refining "Freya" in their next lesson.

Ahlyssa Rose led a student from North High School in Phoenix through vocal warm-ups and exercises, then focused on refining their rendition of "Sweet Child of Mine," paying close attention to specific sections of the song. They worked on rhythm, pitch, and breath control, particularly in the second verse, chorus, and the 'Where do we go now?' section. The student will continue practicing the song independently, as no further lessons are scheduled before their performance.

The lesson included vocal warm-ups, music theory focusing on note durations, and practice on the songs 'Dog Days Are Over' and 'A Million Dreams.' The individual worked on specific vocal techniques and song sections, and was assigned to consider the story and emotions behind the songs for a more engaging performance. They also selected 'Who I Thought I Knew' for their next performance.

The individual, who resides in Oleander/Sunset, focused on vowel pronunciation, rhythm, and pitch accuracy. For homework, they were assigned to practice the second verse and record themselves singing the first verse and chorus for review.
