Abigail - Know your tutor
Hi! I’m Abigail, a Bachelors-educated math tutor with over 5 years of experience helping students build confidence and improve their skills in math. I’ve worked with learners from middle school through college-level courses, covering everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus II. I know math can be frustrating sometimes, so I focus on breaking things down into simple steps and using real-life examples that make sense. Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to match their learning style and pace. Whether you’re catching up on missed topics, trying to boost your grades, or just want extra practice, I’m here to support you. My goal is to help you feel comfortable with math and actually enjoy the learning process. You don’t have to figure it out alone. Let’s work together to make math easier and more manageable for you.

Class overview
My teaching style is supportive, flexible, and student-centered. I take time to understand how each student learns best, whether it's through visual aids, step-by-step examples, real-world applications, or guided practice. I focus on creating a comfortable space where students feel safe asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace. I don’t rush through lessons. Instead, I adapt to what the student needs in the moment and build on their strengths. I regularly check in to make sure they are truly understanding the material and gaining confidence. I aim to make math feel more manageable by simplifying complex ideas and showing how math connects to everyday life. With consistent support, encouragement, and clear explanations, I help students become more confident problem-solvers who feel capable and empowered in their learning.

Mathematics concepts taught by Abigail
The session reviewed fraction simplification using cross reduction and practiced solving multi-step equations, with a focus on distribution and sign management. The student worked on assigned problems, receiving guidance on identifying errors and understanding underlying concepts. The session ended with one problem left unfinished to revisit in the next class.
Cross Reduction of Fractions
Distributive Property & Sign Rules
Solving Multi-Step Equations
Simplifying Variable Terms
Moving Terms Across the Equal Sign
The session covered multiplication of two-digit numbers, including the box method and a shortcut for multiplying numbers ending in zero. The student practiced these techniques and worked on correcting errors in the standard multiplication algorithm. Splitting numbers using the distributive property was suggested for future practice.
The Area Model for Multiplication
Two-Digit Multiplication
Multiplying by Numbers Ending in Zero
Breaking Down Multiplication Problems
The Student reviewed coordinate planes, including identifying quadrants and plotting points based on given coordinates. The Student practiced identifying coordinates from a graph and determining in which quadrant different points would lie. They worked on completing shapes on the coordinate plane by identifying the location of missing points.

Coordinate Points
Plotting Points
Shapes on the Coordinate Plane
Coordinate Plane Axes
The Student and Tutor reviewed exponents and their rules, radicals and their rules (including simplifying radicals), and approximating roots. The Student worked through practice questions on exponents and radicals, focusing on applying the correct rules and simplifying expressions. The next session was postponed due to the Student's midterm exams.
Exponents and Their Rules
Radicals and Their Rules
Addition and Subtraction of Radicals
Approximating Roots
Inverse relationship of a square root and squared term
The Student reviewed simplifying expressions and then moved on to solving inequalities, including multi-step problems. They practiced isolating variables, simplifying expressions, and graphing solutions on a number line. There was a focus on remembering to flip the inequality sign when multiplying or dividing by a negative number.
Simplifying Expressions
Solving Equations
Solving Inequalities
Graphing Inequalities
Reducing Fractions
The session involved a review of solving one-step and multi-step algebraic equations. The student practiced problems involving integers and fractions, focusing on isolating variables and applying inverse operations. The tutor recommended paying close attention to signs when solving equations.
