About your tutor
Hi! My name is Billy, and I’m currently studying Politics with Economics at the University of Bath. Over the past few years, I’ve had the pleasure of tutoring over 800 lessons, gaining valuable experience working with a wide range of students across different ages and abilities. During my gap year, I worked as a Mathematics tutor at a University Technical College. Supporting students both one-on-one and in small groups gave me deep insight into how different learners approach problems—and how to adapt my teaching to suit their needs effectively. Math is a subject I’m genuinely passionate about. I believe it's not just about numbers, but about building confidence, strengthening problem-solving skills, and unlocking that amazing “aha!” moment when it finally clicks. I’m here to help students reach that moment and realize that yes—they can do math!

Class overview
Teaching Methodology My teaching method is structured around four key stages, ensuring clarity, confidence, and independent understanding: 1) Identify Areas to Focus On Before each session, I’ll ask you which topics you’re struggling with or would like to revisit. This allows me to tailor the session specifically to your needs—whether it's revising a tricky concept, preparing for an upcoming test, or strengthening foundational knowledge. 2) Guided Explanation and Demonstration In the session, I’ll break down the topic into manageable parts and clearly explain the underlying concepts. I use real-world analogies, step-by-step walkthroughs, and visual aids when helpful. I then demonstrate worked examples, highlighting key methods and problem-solving strategies. 3) You Try – I Support and Give Feedback You’ll then try similar problems yourself. This is a crucial stage for developing independence. I’ll watch how you work through the problem, provide constructive feedback, correct misunderstandings, and offer alternative ways to tackle the question if needed. 4) Reflection and Reinforcement We’ll review what you’ve learned at the end of the session to reinforce key ideas and ensure clarity. I may assign a few short questions or suggest revision techniques to solidify the concept. Over time, we’ll track progress and adjust our focus areas as needed.
