Guido - Your piano teacher
Hi! My name is Guido, I’m a professional musician, piano teacher, and vocal coach with over 10 years of experience teaching students of all ages and levels. I studied piano with a focus on classical and popular music, and I also hold a degree in Composition and Music Production. I’ve performed and recorded as a pianist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, and I bring all of that professional experience into my lessons. Alongside teaching piano, I also work as a vocal coach, which allows me to help students who want to sing and play at the same time. 🎼 What My Lessons Are Like My piano lessons are always tailored to each student’s goals — whether that’s learning your first songs, improving your technique, exploring music theory, or diving into jazz, pop, or classical repertoire. I combine traditional methods with modern tools (such as Sibelius and Guitar Pro for sheet music and exercises), and I make sure every lesson is both structured and enjoyable. For beginners, I focus on building a solid foundation step by step. For more advanced students, we explore improvisation, harmony, and interpretation in depth.

My piano teaching methodology is student-centered, adapting lessons to each individual's goals, tastes, and learning style. The approach is built on six key principles: Building Strong Foundations: The method emphasizes posture, hand position, and technique from the start, using exercises and songs to develop hand independence and music reading skills. Music Theory in Practice: Theory (chords, scales, harmony) is taught by applying it directly to the repertoire the student is learning. Repertoire and Styles: Lessons are versatile, exploring various styles like classical, jazz, pop, and rock. Students are encouraged to bring their favorite songs to class. Creativity and Expression: The curriculum includes improvisation exercises and ear training to help students develop expressive musicality. Modern Tools and Resources: Notation software and Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) are used to create custom sheet music and allow students to explore recording and composition. Student-Centered Approach: Each lesson concludes with a clear practice plan to guide the student effectively without overwhelming them. The core of the methodology is to balance structure with creativity, discipline with play, and technique with expression, making the learning process both productive and motivating.

Piano concept taught by Guido
During their piano lesson, Guido and Grace focused on refining piano technique, emphasizing finger positioning and relaxation while playing chords. Grace also dedicated time to practicing singing and playing a song, receiving feedback on her pitch and coordination. Guido assigned specific fingering exercises and chord progressions for Grace's further practice and will send the complete song with chord names.

During a recent piano lesson, Guido guided a student from Tallahassee through various exercises, focusing on C major scales, C major chord inversions, and a song. The student practiced playing the song with both hands, incorporating single bass notes in the left hand. For homework, Guido assigned practice on scales, chords, and the song, emphasizing proper hand technique to prevent strain.

During their piano lesson, Guido and Grace reviewed C major scales and chord inversions. They then practiced the song "Come to the Altar," focusing on chord progressions and coordinating with the melody. Guido shared chord charts for the piece and recommended practicing the right-hand chords while singing along. Their next lesson will focus on the left-hand accompaniment.

During a piano lesson, Guido assisted Grace with "Let It Be," focusing on rhythm, chords, and incorporating the left hand. They also began learning "Oh Come to the Altar," working on the intro chords and timing. Grace was assigned to practice both songs, concentrating on coordinating her left and right hands for "Let It Be" and mastering the chord progression for "Oh Come to the Altar."

Guido Donato conducted a piano lesson with Thisthi x, where they focused on scales, specifically C major and D major, and various chords including D minor 7, E minor 7, A7, and A minor 7. The lesson also incorporated sight-reading practice and a review of music theory concepts from a book, with an emphasis on harmonic intervals. They spent time practicing the piece "Satin Doll." For her continued development, Thisthi x was assigned to practice the scales and chords, paying close attention to the first page and the initial two chords of the second page of the song.
