Adam - Know your guitar teacher
Hey my name is Adam Hernandez and I’m a Bachelors educated jazz musician. I spend most of my time playing the upright bass but I have 5+ years of experience teaching guitar, piano, and electric bass. My lessons focus mostly on the artistic aspects of music, hoping to bring out the creativity of my students. I specialize in improvised music seeing as that’s what I mainly do in a jazz setting. My roots however, are in electronic, blues, and funk music so my taste is slightly eclectic. My goal as a teacher is to leave my students feeling like they are capable of expressing themselves and playing what they hear on their instruments. I try my best to include theory while implementing it into music my students enjoy. I find that concepts are easily taught when the students are given a solid ground of understanding. I look forwards to creating music with you:)

Guitar lessons quick guide
Music is a language; learning an instrument should feel like learning to speak fluently, not just memorizing grammar. I focus on developing expressive, confident, and musically literate players. Students should not be afraid to lead lessons. I find that their feedback helps me to tailor the lesson better to them. I’ll always be a stickler for practicing and learning your scales, but they will always be tied in with whatever the lesson focuses on. To me, a student’s expression through music is just as important as being technical skilled. There’s plenty of musicians out there who aren’t the best instrumentalist, but they make up for it in artistry and creativity. I hope to help my students in their journey to achieve a sense of expression through their playing. It’s important to always remember that music isn’t a competition of who can play best but rather an art that is used to help people express thoughts and feelings in a more abstract manner.
