About your music teacher
I'm Karl Kim, a man of many musical hats: composer, an audio engineer, a multi-instrumentalist, and occasionally a conductor and DJ as well. My musical journey started off with piano lessons at age six, and from there I have picked up many other instruments over the years, including but not limited to: violin, guitar, trombone, and various percussion instruments. I have also studied a wide variety of genres of music, including but not limited to jazz, rock, metal, electronic, pop, experimental, and various folk musics from around the world. This journey also has included, for the past decade, composing music of a similarly wide variety of genres and earning a B.M. in Music Theory and Composition at New York University. Since then, I have composed music for a variety of scenarios, including but not limited to for the concert hall, for films, and for video games.
Karl graduated from New York University

Music lessons at a glance
My teaching approach encourages creativity, experimentation, use of compositional techniques, and exploration of the musical world the composer is living in today. Speaking of today, music technology is also a core part of my teaching, especially an approach to technology that will help the student adapt to such an ever-rapidly changing field. My lessons are aimed at beginner and intermediate level composers of all ages, and catered to the individual student's background, interests, and goals. Lessons generally consist of a custom-tailored blend of the following: constructive feedback on music the student is currently creating, introduction to music that the student might find worth listening to, introduction and implementation of theory concepts and compositional techniques, music technology training, and allowing the student to experiment.
