Nikk - Your piano teacher
Music is my life, everything is rhythm, all you need is love. I have been playing music since childhood, initially self-taught, later going on to learn proper technique and theory as well as the Indian classical system. From experience I can say this is NOT an effective way to learn. It's much better to have someone help you through the process! I have been privately teaching music for over 15 years to students of all different: -Learning ability -Age groups, from 8 to 70 years old -Instruments, from piano to tuba -Goals I find 1 on 1 instruction to be the best, as it allows me to focus on the needs and the learning style of the student, and I find it exceptionally rewarding to work with differently abled children- it helps their self-esteem and brings them joy when they get a hold of it, most of the time they will really go far with it! I also have been tutoring in academic subject (reading, math, history, literature, science) applying the same principles and helping students to realize their potential!! For music instruction, my approach is the same as teaching a language: there is an alphabet, we make words with these letters, then sentences, moving on to entire conversations. We learn to pronounce words correctly and then learn grammar. The other side of it is technique specific to the instrument, which includes exercises relative to the goals of the student. I tend to start with a lot of memorization through repetition, then gradual explanation as we go on. Piano concepts taught by Nikk
The Student and Tutor focused on piano technique, specifically sight-reading and chord identification for a new song in the key of D. They reviewed chord structures within the D major scale and practiced recognizing chords visually using intervals like thirds, power chords, and inversions. The session concluded with an assigned exercise to practice all triads in the key of D with both hands, particularly to develop left-hand readiness.

The Student and Tutor reviewed piano basics such as keys, sharps, flats, and the distinction between melody and harmony. They practiced playing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" by integrating left-hand chord progressions with the right-hand melody. The session concluded with an introduction to music notation and a homework assignment to practice note identification by playing and naming them aloud.

The Student performed a piano piece in D minor, receiving detailed feedback from the Tutor on rhythmic accuracy, note interpretation, and structural understanding. They then initiated work on a new piano piece by Saros in D major, practicing left-hand parts and arpeggios. The plan is to continue reviewing this new song in subsequent sessions.

The Student and Tutor reviewed guitar chord inversions, fretboard navigation using major chord shapes, and the relationship between C major and minor 7 chords. They also explored transposing keys on the guitar and practiced understanding the Circle of Fifths, with a focus on identifying sharps in different keys. The Student plans to share a new song for future practice and noted unavailability for the next session.

Student and Tutor thoroughly analyzed various guitar chord structures, including C major 7, E minor add 6, A minor, and F major chords, focusing on their constituent notes and inversion concepts. They explored how chord naming conventions, especially slash chords, facilitate descending bass lines and discussed the practical application of a capo for transposing songs into different keys while maintaining consistent chord shapes. The Student was assigned to practice the current song section and begin analyzing the next set of chords.
