Nikk - Your piano teacher

Music is my life, everything is rhythm, all you need is love. I have been playing music since childhood, initially self-taught, later going on to learn proper technique and theory as well as the Indian classical system. From experience I can say this is NOT an effective way to learn. It's much better to have someone help you through the process! I have been privately teaching music for over 15 years to students of all different: -Learning ability -Age groups, from 8 to 70 years old -Instruments, from piano to tuba -Goals I find 1 on 1 instruction to be the best, as it allows me to focus on the needs and the learning style of the student, and I find it exceptionally rewarding to work with differently abled children- it helps their self-esteem and brings them joy when they get a hold of it, most of the time they will really go far with it! I also have been tutoring in academic subject (reading, math, history, literature, science) applying the same principles and helping students to realize their potential!! This is not an AI generated summary, I wrote this one myself :)

For music instruction, my approach is the same as teaching a language: there is an alphabet, we make words with these letters, then sentences, moving on to entire conversations. We learn to pronounce words correctly and then learn grammar. The other side of it is technique specific to the instrument, which includes exercises relative to the goals of the student. I tend to start with a lot of memorization through repetition, then gradual explanation as we go on. Nikk and Pragyan's recent music theory lesson involved a deep dive into modes, scales, and their connections within the circle of fifths. They focused on how different modes modify scales and how to identify relative majors and minors, also briefly touching on irregular scales and chords. Nikk will provide Pragyan with a highlighted sheet on Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Dorian modes, and their next lesson will continue with an exploration of chords within these scales.

Nikk taught a learner from Port St Lucie about chords, proper hand positioning, and the concept of musical keys on the piano. The learner then practiced playing chords with both hands and transitioning between them. For homework, they were assigned to continue practicing chords with both hands, with a focus on posture and hand positioning.

During a recent lesson, Nikk Palumbo instructed Kaycee Israel on common chord progressions in major and minor keys, specifically covering structures such as I-V-vi-iii-IV-I-IV-V and I-IV-V. Kaycee actively practiced identifying these fundamental musical structures and transposing them to different keys. For her continued development, Nikk assigned Kaycee to practice the discussed chord progressions in various keys, along with continued work on arpeggios.

Nikk guided Pragyan through a music theory lesson, delving into major and minor scales, chord construction, and intervals. Pragyan gained practical experience by building major, minor, and dominant seventh chords in various keys, with particular attention to B flat and E flat. For homework, Nikk assigned Pragyan to practice chord inversions and explore dominant chords in different keys.

During a piano lesson, Nikk collaborated with Jaedyn on mastering C, G, D, and A major scales. The focus for Jaedyn was on enhancing hand coordination and precise finger placement, while Nikk provided guidance on effective fingering techniques and the circle of fifths. For continued practice, Jaedyn was tasked with working on the C, G, D, and A scales, with Nikk suggesting separate hand practice to build better coordination.

During their recent music theory lesson, Nikk and Kaycee delved into chord construction and relationships across various musical keys, specifically C major, A major, and F major. Kaycee actively practiced identifying chords within these keys and grasped the concepts of inversions and dominant chords. To reinforce these principles, Kaycee's homework involves completing chord charts for D major and B flat major.
