Nikk - Know your guitar teacher

Music is my life, everything is rhythm, all you need is love. I have been playing music since childhood, initially self-taught, later going on to learn proper technique and theory as well as the Indian classical system. From experience I can say this is NOT an effective way to learn. It's much better to have someone help you through the process! I have been privately teaching music for over 15 years to students of all different: -Learning ability -Age groups, from 8 to 70 years old -Instruments, from piano to tuba -Goals I find 1 on 1 instruction to be the best, as it allows me to focus on the needs and the learning style of the student, and I find it exceptionally rewarding to work with differently abled children- it helps their self-esteem and brings them joy when they get a hold of it, most of the time they will really go far with it! I also have been tutoring in academic subject (reading, math, history, literature, science) applying the same principles and helping students to realize their potential!! This is not an AI generated summary, I wrote this one myself :)

Guitar lessons quick guide

For music instruction, my approach is the same as teaching a language: there is an alphabet, we make words with these letters, then sentences, moving on to entire conversations. We learn to pronounce words correctly and then learn grammar. The other side of it is technique specific to the instrument, which includes exercises relative to the goals of the student. I tend to start with a lot of memorization through repetition, then gradual explanation as we go on. The session covered major scales, the circle of fifths, and identifying sharps and flats in different keys. The Student explored the keyboard's sound settings and practiced scale fingerings. The Tutor assigned chord practice for the following week and will send a diagram of the circle of fifths.

The Student and Tutor practiced piano scales, specifically the C major and G major scales, focusing on finger dexterity and remembering specific note alterations. They then moved on to learning basic three-note chords in the key of C, practicing C, F, and G chords, and discussed their application to accompanying songs like "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." The Student was encouraged to practice these newly introduced chords.

The Tutor and Student reviewed chord charts, chord progressions, and the emotional impact of different chord changes in music, specifically gospel. They discussed dominant chords, perfect harmonies, dissonance, and improvisation techniques. They also explored borrowed chords, modes (Mixelyian and Lydian), and their applications in creating interesting chord voicings and melodies. The Tutor will send over lesson plans for the coming weeks.

The Student practiced a Bach prelude, focusing on incorporating a metronome and understanding musical terms related to tempo and rhythm. The tutor explained a challenging section of the piece, revealing it to be a G7 arpeggio and demonstrating a hand-switching technique. Scale practice was incorporated to warm up the fingers and reinforce key familiarity, and the student was assigned to continue working on the piece, particularly the identified arpeggio section.
