Guitar lessons quick guide
My method of teaching entails the expressed wants and needs of the student, meaning, that I take music/material that the students likes or designates to learn and start getting to work on that. That way, the material is engaging and fun and takes away a bit from the "work" aspect of practice. It's important for the student to play the songs or music they are interested in, especially in a simplified manner for beginners. I teach given the skill set of the student and aim to teach in a way to get the material down, but to also retain the given information. As retainment is achieved, then the lesson expands into the writing/theory of the music, which introduces theory practice into the equation so the student isn't only learning the material but also the structure or the building blocks of the composition. My personalized teaching approach combines expressive musicality, performance coaching, and theory integration to create effective lessons. By integrating theory into practical playing, students gain a holistic understanding of the instrument. I leverage a wide array of tools both online and offline, such as notation software, practice apps, recording tools, and interactive learning platforms to enhance the learning experience. With a curriculum designed to suit diverse learning styles, I have successfully taught over 200+ students, including adults, beginners, kids, intermediate, and advanced players. My methodology strengths lie in fostering a deep connection with the music, building performance confidence, and nurturing a solid foundation for continuous growth!

Guitar concept taught by Jason
Jason and Jack covered major and minor scales, including the A major and F# minor scales, and explored their relationship to soloing and improvisation. Jack also learned about pitch harmonics and practiced the technique on the guitar. Jason will send tabs for the major scale, major pentatonic, and minor scale as practice material.

Jason provided Ben with a comprehensive guitar lesson, delving into major and minor scales, their interrelationship, and the 'three half steps' rule for identifying relative keys. Ben actively practiced playing A major, A minor, and the major pentatonic scales over various backing tracks. For continued study, Jason assigned Ben to practice the discussed scales and chord progressions, also promising to send diagrams of the scales and the B diminished chord.

Jason taught a student about chord construction, including major 7, minor 7, 9th, 11th, and 13th chords, inversions, and diminished chords. The learner, a student at Florida SouthWestern State College in Cape Coral, also learned about and practiced Ionian, Dorian, and Phrygian modes and how they relate to soloing and improvisation. Jason assigned them to practice the concepts discussed in preparation for working on an improv solo for a piece in the next lesson.

Jason and Matthew dedicated their music lesson to resolving audio interface issues, which enabled Matthew to record his guitar through Ableton Live. They also explored the Phrygian dominant scale and rhythmic exercises, aiming to inspire new musical ideas. Matthew was encouraged to experiment with these techniques and utilize Ableton Live's instructions for recording and editing tracks.

In their recent guitar lesson, Jason and Darshil honed their skills by practicing various chords and progressions, including E minor, C major, D, G major, and F# major. Darshil specifically focused on improving finger placement, strumming techniques, and achieving smooth transitions between chords. Looking ahead, Jason will provide a detailed chord progression with finger positions, while Darshil is set to send two Bollywood song requests for their next lesson. This builds on their previous lesson where they refined a modified strumming pattern for "You Are My Sunshine," slowing down both vocals and chord changes, and successfully practiced the song in a new key using G, C, and D. For an upcoming lesson, one of the learners, who resides in the vibrant Glenwood South area, suggested exploring "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers, a proposal the other readily accepted, committing to practice the new chord progression.

Jason and Matthew delved into guitar techniques and chord progressions, aiming to achieve a darker sound. Their exploration covered chord voicings, palm muting, and various amp settings. Matthew received encouragement to practice a new chord progression (E minor, open C, open G, and F#) both with and without distortion, utilizing backing tracks for his practice. They arranged their next lesson for the upcoming Monday.
