Christopher - Know your guitar teacher
I am currently in my final year of music studies, at Leeds Conservatoire. The 3 year BA course included practical and theoretical elements, including a teaching module which I particularly enjoyed and excelled at. Conservatoire education has allowed me to build on my previous experience, and accumulate a good knowledge of the theoretical foundations of music, as well as their practical implementation. I’m an active and regular practitioner both in live and studio settings and play regularly around the Leeds circuit. I am more than happy to teach beginners and more advanced players. Around the clock, I am available to be contacted if my students should need support, and I always plan teaching materials in advance, so that lessons are efficient and the best they can be. Students are more than welcome to lead the way throughout our lessons, and I actively encourage them to bring in songs/styles to learn.

Guitar lessons quick guide
Initially, I focus on technique with my students; building the foundations upon which we can learn more advanced techniques. For example, hand positions, learning simple scales, and of course simple songs that the student has an interest in. After each lesson, I will provide a "write-up" which contains exercises that we went through in our lesson, and what to focus on when practicing. I believe that a good teacher should be there for students at all times, and I encourage students to get in touch with me whenever they are confused, or not sure why something isn't sounding as good as it could. I would recommend at least one hour per week for lessons, as this is enough time and frequency for the teaching to be advantageous, although this is completely up to the student. I aim to adapt lessons and my teaching style to fit the needs of my students.

Guitar concepts taught by Christopher
During their guitar lesson, Chris and Dalton honed their skills on two classic tracks: Alice in Chains' 'Nutshell' and Yes's 'Roundabout.' Dalton dedicated his practice to mastering chord changes, strumming patterns, and hammer-on techniques within 'Nutshell,' while also exploring harmonics and pull-offs in 'Roundabout.' To support Dalton's continued progress, Chris committed to providing the 'Nutshell' tab, complete with up and down strumming notations, and a video demonstration of 'Roundabout' played at a slower tempo.

Chris and a student from the University of Maryland, College Park, reviewed chromatic scales, music theory including major and minor scales, and chord construction. The learner practiced single-string scales and worked on a challenging excerpt from "Roundabout" by Yes to improve finger dexterity. Chris will send a lesson write-up with tabs, and the student will send links to Alice in Chains songs for future lessons, with the next lesson scheduled for the same time next week.

Chris Wakefield guided Dalton Fortado through exercises to improve his guitar skills, focusing on scales, fretboard knowledge, timing, and hand synchronization. They worked on chromatic scales, single-string scales, and incorporating scales into soloing. Chris will send Dalton notes, tabs, and videos for practice, and they plan to continue working on chord accenting and finger exercises in the next lesson.
