About your guitar teacher

I am a proficient music tutor teaching multiple instruments, focusing on guitar and bass, but am also proficient in playing and teaching ukulele and mandolin. I am an RSL registered teacher and am able to deliver tutoring for graded exams, as well as playing for fun. I am qualified at grade 3 classical guitar and can play to the standard of grade 6 acoustic, with 12 years experience and 8 years playing in a band. I also hold a Level 3 BTEC in Music Performance. My focus is on sharing a love for music with the next generation and ensuring students have a great time and enjoy learning their instrument. I have 3+ years experience teaching 1-1 lessons as the peripatetic teacher in a primary school as well as in a private setting, delivering fun, informative and engaging lessons for children from 6-11 years of age. I structure my lessons around having my students play as much as possible and making sure theory is learned through practical application and in a fun, engaging way.

Guitar lessons overview

I structure my lessons around having my students play as much as possible and making sure theory is learned through practical application and in a fun, engaging way. What I teach depends on what my students wish to get out of their lessons, whether that be learning chords to apply to songs they would like to play, or a more theory and classical based approach if working towards grades. For students who wish to learn the instrument and then apply it to playing songs they love, I center our lessons around learning notes, riffs and chords and spending time working on the structure of the songs they choose. With an approach aimed towards grades, my lessons focus more on music theory and learning notes, scales and the pieces required for exams. However, a mix of both styles is always welcome. I am able to teach many different genres, for example: rock, pop or folk, and can do specifically electric guitar or bass if a child had a special interest in genres such as rock.
