Music flows through everyone - this requires no teaching. However, the process of bringing that music to life requires a little practice. If your goal is to play the songs with all the strength in the world, jam with friends, express the emotions can only be expressed through your instrument - or ANYTHING to do with playing, loving and learning music, I've got you. As a scholarship-awardee student of the VCA, I am skilled in playing saxophone and piano, improvising, as well as complex music theory. If you're scared of learning music theory, but determined to be the best musician you can be, I can help you fall in love with it. At the end of the day, music is language. Music is art. Music is expression; it is NOT calculation. Whether you're a beginner or advanced player, I can help create personalised lesson plans that focus on YOUR needs. I will not handcuff you to learning methods that don't work for you; this will make learning a chore. I will help you learn the easiest way YOU learn. No person is the same, so there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all in this game. I am a mostly self-taught musician. It wasn't ideal, but I did not have the privilege of a teacher. What I did have was the burning desire to play the music I wanted to hear, so I developed my own learning methods to get as good as I could. After a couple of years of this work, I was awarded a scholarship and offered a position in the best music school for Jazz in the southern hemisphere. Self-teaching taught me how to learn. This knowledge will help me teach you how to learn. A student to me isn't just another obligation. To a professional extent, I take interest in their wellbeing and getting to know them. This is because everyone is in a different place in their life; one's circumstance affects how they learn so I make sure not to put too high or too low of an expectation on my students. Additionally, I am able to help students overcome common learning roadblocks. Since I've experienced this before and overcome it myself, I can guide my students out of roadblocks confidently. Enough of the philosophy, here is the technical stuff. To achieve your goal of being a good pianist, we will focus on working on technique, harmonic and rhythmic fundamentals (fancy words for staying in time and playing good notes), theory, and how to have fun! Don't worry, I will not give you any information that you are not ready for. Every lesson is personalised to you.
