Yi - Get to know your vocal coach

Hello all! My name is Yi, and I’m a singer/songwriter, stage performer, studio musician, and music Instructor. What makes me unique, is how my personal career took off while attending the Central Conservatory of Music in my hometown Beijing, where I was lucky enough to become discovered by a famous music producer. I had the privilege, and worked with top level professionals that the music industry has to offer! Because of that, I was lucky enough to experience the full scope of being a touring Headliner, where I gained much invaluable experience that comes with working at that highest of levels. From there, I went on to attend McNally Smith College of Music, located in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. where I received my Master’s degree in Music Performance - Vocals. Throughout that time, I’ve been taught by industry leading professionals for 12+ years, and have been instructing for 7+ years. I’ve taught every style from pop, to rock, jazz, R’n B, and musical theater. One constant thing that remains a great passion of mine, is in sharing all of my unique, well developed, knowledge and experience. I use this to create your very own personalized lesson plan, in order to help you achieve your musical aspirations regardless of your current leve, and transform you into the musician you can become!

During a piano lesson with Thee Rock Doll, Ruknul honed his skills, focusing on melodic intervals (seconds and thirds) and rhythm. He dedicated time to playing "O Clair de la Lune" and another piece, where he practiced identifying notes on the grand staff and maintaining a consistent rhythm. For his upcoming practice, Ruknul was assigned to continue identifying intervals and pieces from the lesson, and was also encouraged to print a grand staff for reference.

Thee Rock Doll guided Sonia through the first page of the song "Rainbow," focusing on rhythm and chord accuracy. Sonia, who calls Coconut Grove home, practiced identifying notes and chords, particularly in a challenging section with a time signature change. The tutor recommended practicing the piece in separate hands and focusing on note accuracy before adding vocals, with plans to continue working on the song's first two pages in the next lesson.
