Yi - Your piano teacher

Hello all! My name is Yi, and I’m a singer/songwriter, stage performer, studio musician, and music Instructor. What makes me unique, is how my personal career took off while attending the Central Conservatory of Music in my hometown Beijing, where I was lucky enough to become discovered by a famous music producer. I had the privilege, and worked with top level professionals that the music industry has to offer! Because of that, I was lucky enough to experience the full scope of being a touring Headliner, where I gained much invaluable experience that comes with working at that highest of levels. From there, I went on to attend McNally Smith College of Music, located in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. where I received my Master’s degree in Music Performance - Vocals. Throughout that time, I’ve been taught by industry leading professionals for 12+ years, and have been instructing for 7+ years. I’ve taught every style from pop, to rock, jazz, R’n B, and musical theater. One constant thing that remains a great passion of mine, is in sharing all of my unique, well developed, knowledge and experience. I use this to create your very own personalized lesson plan, in order to help you achieve your musical aspirations regardless of your current level, and transform you into the musician you can become!

Thee Rock Doll guided Ruknul Islam through a review of basic music theory, including note values (whole, half, and quarter notes), left-hand C position, and an introduction to the grand staff. Ruknul practiced playing a simple melody with the right hand and then the left hand, and they discussed the concept of rests and repeats. Ruknul was encouraged to memorize the notes on the staff and practice the piece before the next session.

Thee Rock Doll guided Jean through her piano lesson, focusing on exercises and sight-reading from the "Basic Adult Piano Course." They covered scales, chords (G major, C major, D7), rhythm, and new musical symbols. Jean practiced warm-up exercises, learned new hand motions, and worked on songs from pages 38-45, including playing in different octaves and the middle C position. Thee Rock Doll will send Jean a recording of a song and the book's name, and they plan to continue with the jazz exercise and dotted notes in their next lesson.

A student from Aurora University and the tutor practiced piano, focusing on note reading, C position exercises, quarter, half, and whole notes, and melodic and harmonic intervals. The learner worked on pieces incorporating these concepts and was encouraged to practice each hand separately with a metronome. The tutor will send additional resources to help with note recognition, and they scheduled the next lesson for the following week.

Thee Rock Doll conducted a piano lesson with Isha Joshi, where the focus was on note reading, rhythm, and foundational music theory. Isha engaged in exercises to identify intervals, grasp time signatures, and played new compositions, practicing each hand independently. For their upcoming lesson, the intention is to progress to songs requiring both hands together, and Isha will dedicate practice time to the current material, emphasizing rhythm and accurate notes.
