About your vocal coach

I’m Adam Pugh, a trained singer and actor with 3 years of professional experience. This was primarily on luxury cruise ships as a production singer all over the world. My training was in Musical Theatre at a top London conservatoire. Musical theatre crosses many different vocal genres so I am able to teach multiple styles, pop, rock, theatre, jazz and classical theatre singing. The main aim of my lessons is to improve confidence in singing while maintaining a healthy voice, whether that’s for beginners who are just starting to put themselves in front of an audience or if you are auditioning for drama school. It could even be that you want to impress your friends at karaoke. Whatever the reason for wanting to develop your singing, I will be able to help. It’s also worth noting that I’m currently studying for a qualification in vocal health first aid to further my knowledge of the inner workings of the voice.

Singing lessons overview

The main focus of my lessons is to build vocal confidence. A normal lesson structure will always begin with a short warm up to gauge where the voice is at and prepare for the lesson depending on the intensity of the material. Next we will have a quick discussion about the song or songs that you’ve chosen for the lesson. Then I will have a listen to your version of the song before giving some feedback and advice on things you might be able to improve. To get the most out of a lesson with me it is good to have a bit of an idea about what it is you want to achieve with the song and we can break it down into simple steps. A speaker or device to play backing tracks on is essential for lessons, if you struggle to find backing tracks I have links to several helpful websites, particularly for musical theatre where not everything can be found on a YouTube karaoke channel.
