About your violin teacher
Hello! My name is Kristi Terauchi. I have been teaching strings (violin, viola, cello, bass) for over 24 years. I hold a teaching certificate and both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees are in Music and Music Education. My passion lies in providing personalized learning experiences for students of all ages. Most of my teaching has been focused on high school and college music students, but I have also taught ages 5 through 80+ years old. My teaching style focuses on honing essential skills like Bow Technique, Finger Placement & Intonation, and Music Theory, while emphasizing aspects such as Playing Posture, Rhythm, and Scales. Whether you're a beginner, intermediate player, adult or child, I am experienced in tailoring lessons for ages and skill levels. In addition to the basics of violin, I encourage my students to practice Ear Training and Sight-Reading skills. Incorporating these skills creates a whole musician. My goal is to foster a love for music. Join me to embark on a musical journey that's enriching, rewarding, and above all, enjoyable. Let's create beautiful music together!

Violin lessons overview
My personalized approach focuses on strengthening essential skills such as tone, bowing technique, and rhythmic accuracy while building a strong classical foundation. I offer step-by-step mastery of classical technique as a springboard into the various styles such as fiddle, Baroque, and jazz. I also offer a wide introduction to the many technological tools, both online and offline, to enhance interactive lessons, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience. I also offer the Suzuki method for younger students who have trouble understanding the musical alphabet. I was trained in the Suzuki method while in college, and although I have let my certification lapse, I still use this method when I feel it is appropriate and most beneficial for a student. Over the last 24 years, I have had the opportunity to cater lessons to a diverse audience of 200+ students of all ages and skill levels. My methodology strengths lie in providing engaging and effective lessons that empower students to excel in their violin journey.
