Maya - Violin teacher
I’m Maya Litmanovich a dedicated violist and violinist with over 12 years of experience playing and 3+ teaching, currently studying at HKU Utrechts Conservatorium. My musical journey began at age 6 with private lessons and continued at the Special Music School of the Kaufman Music Center in New York City, where I received rigorous training in both performance and music theory. I have participated in many music festivals across the globe, including the Killington Music Festival (2018–2019), the Académie Internationale de Musique in Paris, France (2022), and the Crescendo Summer Music Festival in Tokaj, Hungary (2023). I have also performed in a variety of ensemble settings, most recently serving as a freelance orchestral musician and youth orchestra ringer in the Netherlands. In addition to my performance credentials, I have organized and performed in numerous benefit concerts, supporting causes such as breast cancer awareness and Ukrainian relief efforts. Whether on stage or in the classroom, I bring a deep musicality, a thoughtful approach to teaching, and a global perspective to all that I do.

Violin lessons overview
I’m a passionate violin and viola teacher who focuses on musicality, artistic development, and the powerful connection between the mind, body, and music. With over a decade of playing experience and training from some of the world’s leading music institutions, I bring a holistic, intuitive approach to every lesson. I believe that music is not just something we play—it’s something we feel and embody. When the body is aligned and the mind is calm and engaged, everything becomes possible. My teaching emphasizes posture, physical awareness, and emotional expression as keys to unlocking musical potential. In my lessons, I strive to create a space where students not only develop technical skills, but also discover their own artistic voice. I want my students to explore why they play, not just how, and to grow into musicians who are confident, sensitive, and expressive. For me, the ultimate goal is to help each student find freedom, joy, and meaning in their music.

During a recent violin lesson, Maya and Craig focused on enhancing Craig's playing. Their work centered on scales, fourth finger placement, and dynamics within the piece "Dance of the Tumblers." Craig's assignments included practicing G string scales, with an emphasis on shoulder relaxation, and recording the dynamics of "Dance of the Tumblers" for Maya's review. They also delved into bow technique and musicality.

During their violin lesson, Maya guided Maddey through various aspects of violin practice, including accidentals (sharps and flats), tuning, and rhythm. Maddey dedicated time to pieces such as Hedwig's Theme and King William's March, receiving corrections and guidance from Maya. For her practice, Maddey was tasked with focusing on the beginning of Hedwig's Theme, specifically its accidentals, continuing with King William's March, and confirming details about Goblin Walk with her mother.

During a recent violin lesson, Maya guided Craig, focusing on enhancing his playing through scales in third position and expressive techniques for "Dance of the Tumblers." For homework, he will practice shifting exercises to keep his shoulder down and work on expressive performance through facial expressions and body language.

In a recent lesson, two students, one a dedicated learner from Sunnyside, collaborated on the King William's March. They honed their bowing techniques, rhythm, and dynamics, paying close attention to staccato and accents. One of the students took the opportunity to explain the musical term 'simile' and illustrate its application within the piece. The other was tasked with practicing Hedwig's Theme and providing pictures of Goblin Walk and King's March.

In a recent lesson, Maya guided Craig through various violin techniques, specifically focusing on fourth-finger stretches and shifting exercises. They also spent time analyzing the piece "Dance of the Tumblers," where they discussed bowing techniques, musical notation, and dynamics.
