Stephanie - Get to know your vocal coach

Growing up in choirs, musical theatre productions, and listening to music nearly constantly on the radio, my entire life has been defined by music. I recently graduated from San Diego State University with my BA in Theatre Performance, where I was also heavily involved in the musical theatre program. I have worked with the SDSU Concert Choir, mainstage musical theatre productions, and various student organizations to hone my singing skills, and love nothing more than sharing them with students. I have been teaching singing for about two years, working as an independent voice teacher and music director. I have worked with individual students on musical theatre, pop, country, and jazz. These lessons were centered on a love of singing, where we learned technique while singing songs the students personally loved and wanted to learn. I have also worked as a music director in plays with song, working with a variety of performers, some of whom had extensive music experience and some of whom had none. I have loved working with all my students and cannot wait to work with you as well!

Singing lessons highlights

I have experience in a variety of styles, but have a special place in my heart for musical theatre, pop, country, classical, and jazz. My lessons focus on technique, providing each student a necessary background in music theory, anatomy, and musicality. I love working with students on different styles, helping them discover what makes each style unique. I have worked with students in a variety of ages, from children to adults, and know how to introduce each age group to new styles and methods of singing. My teaching style is focused on support and comfortability. Singing can be very vulnerable, and I want my students to feel that they have an environment where they can safely try new things and push themselves to the next level without feeling judged. I have worked with voice teachers of my own since I was 15 years old, and know how it feels to be discouraged. I pride myself on creating a space where you can believe in yourself, because I will always believe in you. I can't wait to work with you!

Stephanie and Gabriel engaged in vocal warm-ups and meticulously refined sections of "Bring Me to Life," concentrating on rhythm, breathing, enunciation, and dynamics. During their time together, they also evaluated potential songs for upcoming lessons, such as "Speak to Me" and Gabriel's original composition, considering the technical and stylistic demands of each. Gabriel was then tasked with deciding which song he would prefer to tackle in their next lesson.
