Growing up in choirs, musical theatre productions, and listening to music nearly constantly on the radio, my entire life has been defined by music. I recently graduated from San Diego State University with my BA in Theatre Performance, where I was also heavily involved in the musical theatre program. I have worked with the SDSU Concert Choir, mainstage musical theatre productions, and various student organizations to hone my singing skills, and love nothing more than sharing them with students. I have been teaching singing for about two years, working as an independent voice teacher and music director. I have worked with individual students on musical theatre, pop, country, and jazz. These lessons were centered on a love of singing, where we learned technique while singing songs the students personally loved and wanted to learn. I have also worked as a music director in plays with song, working with a variety of performers, some of whom had extensive music experience and some of whom had none. I have loved working with all my students and cannot wait to work with you as well!

Singing lessons highlights
I have experience in a variety of styles, but have a special place in my heart for musical theatre, pop, country, classical, and jazz. My lessons focus on technique, providing each student a necessary background in music theory, anatomy, and musicality. I love working with students on different styles, helping them discover what makes each style unique. I have worked with students in a variety of ages, from children to adults, and know how to introduce each age group to new styles and methods of singing. My teaching style is focused on support and comfortability. Singing can be very vulnerable, and I want my students to feel that they have an environment where they can safely try new things and push themselves to the next level without feeling judged. I have worked with voice teachers of my own since I was 15 years old, and know how it feels to be discouraged. I pride myself on creating a space where you can believe in yourself, because I will always believe in you. I can't wait to work with you!

Singing concept taught by Stephanie
Stephanie and Gabriel engaged in vocal warm-ups and meticulously refined sections of "Bring Me to Life," concentrating on rhythm, breathing, enunciation, and dynamics. During their time together, they also evaluated potential songs for upcoming lessons, such as "Speak to Me" and Gabriel's original composition, considering the technical and stylistic demands of each. Gabriel was then tasked with deciding which song he would prefer to tackle in their next lesson.

Stephanie worked with an individual on vocal exercises and song performance, focusing on breath control, resonance, and achieving a 'belty' sound. This learner, who resides in Crocker Highlands, practiced specific sections of a song, working on breath techniques and note accuracy, and they discussed musicality. Stephanie assigned them to practice the song again, playing the music on her end to check for musicality, and they planned to start looking for a new song next time.

The individual, a resident of Oakland, worked on expanding their lower range and explored different vocal placements to achieve a mixed sound. They also discussed adding personal style and energy to the song performance, and agreed to continue working on the song in the next lesson.

During their recent vocal lesson, Stephanie and Gabriel focused on warm-ups designed to manage mucus, then moved on to practicing 'Bring Me to Life.' They paid close attention to note accuracy and rhythm. Gabriel dedicated his efforts to specific sections of the song, while Stephanie provided valuable techniques to enhance transitions and breathing. For their upcoming lesson, they plan to review the chorus notes, further refine breathing techniques, and delve into exploring tone and volume.

Stephanie Norris coached an individual on vocal techniques and song performance, specifically focusing on the song "Birds of a Feather." This learner, a resident of Cherry Hill, worked on vocal warm-ups, breath control, articulation, and phrasing, breaking down the song into sections for detailed practice. For their next lesson, they were assigned to practice long and short breaths and to explore different breath placements for high and low notes.

Stephanie Norris coached a student from the University of Texas at El Paso, where they discussed the student's role in "The Addams Family" and then focused on vocal exercises to improve their range and technique. They began learning "I'm Trapped in a House" from Tuck Everlasting, working on managing low notes and differentiating between straight tone and vibrato.
