Singing lessons overview
I believe that anyone can sing! My teaching approach is quite student centered and custom for each person that I work with. The voice is an incredibly personal instrument and it can be quite challenging to learn, so it is important to me that I lead kindness while teaching. When I begin working with a new student I always ask them what their goals are, and I remind them often of the progress they are making. Mental wellness plays a large part in the quality of singing, so I view confidence boosting as a not insignificant part of my job as a teacher. Listening is also a core part of my teaching approach. I am able to discern a lot about the voice including what we need to work on, the health of the instrument, and the long-term potential of the instrument, just by listening. From there, I use scientifically backed exercises and strategies to target specific vocal qualities. The voice can be quite technical, but I believe that everyone will sing better once they fully understand their instrument. I thoroughly explain the purpose of each exercise and technique so that students are able to recreate it even when I'm not with them.
