About your piano teacher
Welcome! My name is Summer Harper, and I am a general music, vocal, and piano educator who has been playing the piano and studying music since I was four years old! I graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with piano as my main instrument, and voice as my secondary. I am a certified K-12 Music teacher with 2+ years of classroom experience and 8+ years of private lesson teaching experience. I have also completed the Suzuki piano teacher training up to level 3. I teach beginner to intermediate to students of any age! While I specialize in teaching music theory, sight reading fluency, fundamentals, and ear training, I am prepared to work with every student's individual needs. I heavily prioritize tailoring my teaching towards each student's goals. Please join me if you're ready to learn some piano skills and have some fun!

Piano lessons overview
I endeavor to personalize my tutoring experience as much as possible. Initial lessons begin with a focus on understanding the student's goals and interests, then tailoring the lessons accordingly. If you want to learn sight-reading only and skip the ear training, I'm all for it! Or, if you would like to brush up on your music theory but you have no interest in playing scales, I get it. Wherever you may be on the scale from beginner to intermediate, I am here to help you meet your goals. I have taught diverse groups of students and have experience making sure each lesson fits their needs. With younger students, first lessons begin with a focus on the student and parent's goals, then lessons are tailored accordingly. I keep lessons for younger students engaging by providing stimulating, educational music games that grow their music knowledge, while having fun and learning to sing and play. I use Zoom sessions to teach online, and I may suggest the use of apps such as online piano or metronome apps as aids to the student.
