French tutoring with empathy, adaptability, and problem-solving

Hey there! I’m C, a recent college graduate with 5+ years of teaching experience in roles including daycare staff, personal French tutor, public school substitute teacher in preK and Special Ed, teaching assistant for French language and francophone culture at the college level, summer camp assistant, bilingual homework resource in an afterschool multilingual program, children museum volunteer, and volunteer transcriber and proofreader. My interests include language acquisition, cross-cultural communication, foreign language teaching, translation and interpretation, as well as museum studies, European studies, holistic health, and sustainability. What I enjoy most about the teaching-learning process is making knowledge accessible to all with empathy, flexibility, and patience, seeing the spark in learners’ eyes when they grasp new concepts, and accompanying learners in their journey towards using their knowledge with confidence and becoming proud of their progress and abilities.

My teaching style incorporates my interpersonal skills as well as my background in developmental psychology, education, and Montessori philosophy. It also reflects my values and beliefs: . be adaptable – to provide individualized guidance by tailoring learning programs to each individual (their background knowledge, their personal goals, and their current and wanted abilities) . be supportive – to sync in with students by adjusting my speed and approach to their lead and interests and by investing the time it takes for them to understand the material before moving on . language-focused learning - to reinforce pronunciation accuracy, enforce both grammar and conjugation rules, and provide timely feedback in order to build a good working base of the language and increase learners’ fluency . be curious and open-minded – to blend linguistic skills with cultural components by sharing relevant aspects of francophone culture such as expressions, media, and habits
